Hello, I am
Rebekka Keuss.
I am an urban development specialist with a focus on cities in the Global South.
Why Development?
What drives me to work in international urban development is its ability to shape the world we live in within the limited time we are given on earth. We have created this world so another world is always possible.
Why Urban?
As an urbanist with a German-Taiwanese background, I move between urban design, architecture, ethnography, and planning while promoting the idea that is important to pay attention to a city’s specificities – because they matter.
Why Global South?
Because it is where cities grow fastest, challenges are most complex, and resources and planners are scarce.
Working on Urban Projects since 2019
I have been responding to socio-spatial urban challenges while working with NGOs and international organisations like GIZ, UN-Habitat, and the Goethe-Institute, always in partnership with national and local government partners and various urban actors and changemakers.
English, Portuguese, Spanish and German
These are the languages I speak best and am most comfortable working in. My French, Italian, and Chinese Mandarin are good but not fluent. While living abroad, I have picked up some Arabic, Amharic, and Kiswahili.
Africa, Asia, MENA, South America, Europe
These are the places where I have worked and/or lived extensively - the only contents missing are Oceania and Antarctica.
It is important to pay attention to a city's specificities - because they matter.
